The Reorganization Plan abolished the FSA and transferred all of its features to the secretary of HEW and all elements of the agency to the department. The first secretary of HEW was Oveta Culp Hobby, a local of Texas, who had served as commander of the Women's Army Corps in World War II and was editor and writer of the Houston Post. Sworn in on April eleven, 1953, as secretary, she had been FSA administrator since January 21, 1953. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC's) Procurement and Grants Office awards over 25,000 acquisition and assistance actions each year and obligates approximately $11 billion in federal funds. PGO aids in attaining CDC's mission by quickly and successfully allocating funds to the place they're wanted.
